Details on Arizona Casinos

In the 1990’s casinos were legalized in Arizona as long as they were located on Native American reservations. Arizona gambling is limited to tribal casinos, horse racing, and the official state lottery. All casino gambling activities are monitored and governed by the Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compacts, which are agreements between the state of Arizona and 21 separate Native American tribes.

Native American Tribal lands in Arizona take up more than 20 million acres, that’s more than a quarter of all the land in Arizona. All proceeds from Arizona’s tribal casinos are required to be used for charity, or to the benefit of the tribal governments.

In early 2017 Arizona passed new legislation banning greyhound racing in the state. This ended the 72-year legacy of greyhound racing in Arizona, which was, at one time, the dominant form of legal gambling within the state

Casino gambling in Arizona today generates profits of about $100 million per year. Those profits have becomes a main income source for the participating tribes, according to the Arizona Indian Gaming Association.

All Arizona Indian casinos are allowed to offer a variety of table games, as well as slot machines, video keno, and video poker. All casinos in Arizona are open 24 hours and the minimum age to gamble is 21.

Many of the casinos in Arizona have hotels, be sure to check out our detailed list of information about each casino is available via the links.

Phoenix, Arizona is home to quite a few casinos, as there are eight casinos that can be reached within a 10-minute drive.

Slot Machine Payback Percentages at Arizona Casinos

Though Arizona casinos are not required by law to release information on their slot machine payback percentages, the Arizona Department of Gaming does require each of the tribe’s machines to return specific minimum and maximum paybacks, as follows: video poker and video blackjack – 83% to 100%, slot machines – 80% to 100%, keno – 75% to 100%.

Within these requirements each tribe is able to set their machines anywhere between those limits at their own volition.

Unlike the casinos in Arizona, in many U.S. states the slot machine payback statistics for that particular state’s casinos are released as a matter of public record. Just click here to see a list of slot machine payback statistics for casinos in all U.S. states.
